How to select deep well submersible pump head and flow quantity?
1. Choose a deep well submersible pump that meets the requirement of lift.
1) Select water pump lift
The lift here refers to the head needed by the clients, not the height of water the pump lifts. Understanding this point is important for water pump selection. The head is about 1.15~1.2 times of the height of water the pump lifts. For instance, if water has to be lifted 20m vertically from water source, then the water pump needs to have 23~24 m head. The lift on the nameplate of the deep well submersible pump you choose should be close to the actual lift you need. Only under this condition can the water pump work economically with highest efficiency. But they don’t have to be exactly same, but the allowed error should not be larger than 20%.
2) How large should the pump head on the nameplate be?
If the head on the nameplate of the deep well submersible pump you choose is much smaller than the actual head you need, this pump usually will not satisfy your needs. Even if it does pump water, it will only send out quite a small amount of water. It may even become a useless idle pump. When we purchase a water pump, is its head the higher the better? In fact, it is not true. If a pump of high head is used to pump water to a lower level of height, then the flow quantity will be excessive and the motor will become overload. If it runs like this for a long time, the motor will rise in temperature, and the insulation layer of its windings will gradually become aged, and the motor will even get born out.
2. Select a water pump of appropriate flow quantity
The flow quantity of a water pump is the amount of water it sends out. Generally it should not be too large. Pumps with larger flow quantity cost more. We should take the actual conditions into consideration. For instance, if you want to select a self-priming pump used to get living water for households, we should choose one with smaller flow quantity; if you want to choose a submersible water pump for irrigation, we can choose one with relatively larger flow quantity.
